Back in April, I introduced you all to Letters from the Heart; a project indirectly inspired by Maya Angelou that had the sole purpose of releasing letters online in hopes that someone harbouring the same feelings as the writer can find some sort of peace in the knowledge that they are not alone.
Well, the very first letter was officially posted on June 30th and we’ve had a wonderful response to it so far!
This weekend, I received an e-mail in regards to the first letter, Letter to the Abandoned. She, too, came from a broken family – one that had been filled with what she labelled as ‘love and closeness’ but that had disintegrated for reasons she didn’t understand.
“The most confusing for me, and it sounds for you, is not understanding what happened to push everyone so far apart, rather than coming together. I think about it often, but have not come to any understanding at all. I just don’t know what happened. I don’t know why everyone drifted away, even though I asked. At the same time, I wish everyone well and hope they find their happiness…”
To the writer of Letter to the Abandoned, she hopes that you’ve come through the situation kinder to yourself, devoid of danger and with an open heart. Everything you wish for the abandoned, she wishes for you.
It is such a privilege to be able to share the stories of these wonderful people and even more so to have these beautiful e-mails in return.
If you want to join the Letters from the Heart project, get in touch! The project itself runs for the course of a year and we have plenty of slots available for your story. For more information, click here.
