2018 [Part II]: Setting Intentions

At the beginning of the year, I had my tarot read. The reader told me that from January’s start to March’s end, my life would be filled with hope. I would begin to let go of the old and embrace the new. From April to the end of July, life would be about success and would be filled with new opportunities and inspiration. And in August, I would finally find the balance I’ve so desperately been searching for.

As promised, those first three months were filled with hope: after the death of my grandmother, I created new relationships with my extended family and learned to live by myself for a while. I also began to sever ties with people, places and things that were no longer good for me and let go of past pains. My days were filled with hope: hope for a better tomorrow, a better next week and an even better following month.

By the time April hit, I was beginning to pave new roads into my career. I signed new clients as a content writer, began work as a social media manager, finished the first draft of my first young adult novel. I then spent six weeks being more social than ever before, forging new friendships in the spaces the severed ties had left behind. My weeks were filled success of all sizes, each one opening new doorways for me to merrily skip through.

July 2ndmarked the halfway point of 2018 and, if you’re anything like me, you’ve spent the last few weeks of the Cancer Season reflecting upon the first half of the year. This shift for Cancer to Leo is the perfect time to begin implementing change with full force. How do we do that? By setting intentions and believing in them whole heartedly!

Intentions help you manifest your goals. They should be written in a positive tone with no negative language – they’re ‘do’s, not ‘do not’s – and should push you into growing. It’s should also deal with the triad: your mind, your body and your spirit. Intention isn’t about physical things, but about your internal well-being.

To give you an idea of how you could set your intentions, here are mine for this month:

  • I intent to find the balance that I was promised this August, and to keep hold of it.
  • I intend to remember that my feelings are subjective and that the intensity in which I feel them are up to me.
  • I intend to forgive myself as easily as I forgive others,
  • I intend to smile every day, and be grateful for what I’m blessed with.
  • I intend to move forward without looking back, and without searching for toxicity and pain.

Once they’re set, it’s time to announce them to the universe, to remind yourself of them daily and reconnect with the positivity they’re written in. Put your energy into them, your faith, and they’ll return it if you let them.

It’s been an interesting journey coming to believe in the power of intention, the power of positivity, but now I’m convinced that they are real things we scoff at much too lightly. So with my fresh acceptance of that knowledge, and my tarot reading in mind, I now step into August positive that the promise of balance awaits me. Come join me!
