To say I had high expectations for this book would be a lie. When it arrived, I was more interested in the packaging than in the book (Seriously, it came in a bright pink bubble envelope! How cool is that?!) and all I had to go on was this:
Imagine waking up in the night to find your gorgeous new neighbour dangling out of your window. Not only is he dangling out of your window, he’s also clutching your tattiest bra in his hand.
What. The. Actual. Fudge.
Meet Alec Wilde, notorious bad boy and dedicated prankster. And after their ‘unconventional’ introduction, Riley Greene is determined to get her own back. If Alec wants a prank war, that’s exactly what he’ll get. It’s game on.
It’s an original idea, that’s for sure, but no way could this book live up to the YA romance books that came before it. Begrudgingly I sat down to read it. There was no doubt in my mind that I was about to waste my entire day. Somehow, even with my two-year-old nephew forcing me to play catch with him and my sister forcing me to eat dinner, I managed to finish it in six hours.
The verdict: A Bad Boy Stole My Bra is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time.
The first half of Chapter 1: ‘Mario Wins Again’ had me rolling my eyes and muttering about predictability, the second half had me intrigued but still not overly enthusiastic about reading it, but by the end of Chapter 2: ‘Come and Get It’ I had to outright admit to myself that I was wrong. I was in stitches! Granted, what I was laughing at was complete and utter cheese, but it was deliberately so and that made it all the more entertaining.
A Bad Boy Stole My Bra is so much more than prank wars. It’s about friendship and trust and learning to love yourself, faults and all. Yes, it has a rather predictable plot, but the characters are so well written and are so aware of how clichéd the story is, that it’s predictability is actually quite endearing.
If you like YA romance, this one is definitely for you. And, thankfully, you won’t have to wait long! A Bad Boy Stole My Bra is set to be released in the UK on 12th July 2018!
